Orthodontics is an area of dentistry that involves correcting teeth that are improperly positioned. Neligh Family Dentistry is proud to offer orthodontic services for our patients.
Our general dentists have had additional training to provide orthodontic treatment in order to treat malocclusions which are often called bad bites. This is when a client bites down and their teeth do not come together correctly. We also treat crooked teeth or teeth that simply do not line up correctly. We also pay attention to the growth and development of the facial bones and jaw and will intervene as necessary to utilize growth to help correct malocclusions such as open bites, cross bites, and other situations that may arise and can be addressed early.
While orthodontics can be considered mostly cosmetic procedures, it is important to fix these problems for a healthy mouth. Teeth that are not properly aligned are the perfect place for food and bacteria to hide. They can also be hard to clean and can result in cavities and gum disease. As a result orthodontics can improve a person’s ability to eat, speak, and chew their food in addition to the cosmetic benefit that results.
How can these problems be fixed? Clear aligner therapy or traditional banding and bracketing are the most common treatment options, though we also treat our clients with headgear, palatal expansion, and other appliances depending on the specific correction required.
